The KSEVT Collection is a collaborative project designed to make knowledge about arts, culture, humanities, and social studies in the context of outer space accessible and visible to the public. This knowledge is crucial in shaping how people envision Earth, its orbit, other planets, and the vast cosmos. The collection aims to foster an inclusive understanding of human activities in outer space, providing a comparative view of traditional and contemporary cosmologies, showcasing work of a community of artists, critical makers, and researchers, while encouraging reflection on public notion of humanity’s cosmic endeavours.
The library’s foundation comes from KSEVT’s original collection, which includes publications gathered between 2005 and 2017, such as early editions on rocketry and space travel by pioneers like Ciolkovsky, Oberth, Valier, Potočnik, and Clarke. Building on this base, it seeks to incorporate key works by visionaries like Vernadsky, Sagan, and Buckminster Fuller—publications that have shaped not only today’s space imaginaries but also the fundamental sciences—and to offer critical perspectives on the evolution of contemporary space cultures. Additionally, the library will gather lesser-known works from fields such as the arts, cultural studies, humanities, social sciences, law, and post-domain studies, celebrating a range of cultural perspectives.
Collection
KSEVT Collection is organised in separate Library and Archive. While library covers registered publications, the archive collects also exhibition catalogues, conference papers, research documentation, art publications and texts, documents and other uncategorised publications and media. The collection focuses on physical publications and documents, and in case of digital publications, on reprints. The collection is located in Center Noordung in Vitanje:
Physical collection in Vitanje collects, stores, and provides public access to physical publications. A portion of the space is dedicated to an open reading room featuring an annually curated selection of publications, with remaining materials available upon request.
Online Catalog published on Zotero provides bibliographical and archival metadata on collected items. The goal of this catalogue is its interoperability with other registers and as such visibility and accessibility for researchers worldwide. This goal will enhance also through the More-than-Planet Online Library, as a separate effort to connect this collection with other similar collections, libraries and archives.
